Washington Gas worked in the north shoulder of Klingle Road NW just to the west of Connecticut Avenue this week. The gas company crew had to work around a previously abandoned steel gas line also located in the shoulder. By Thursday it was not possible to avoid the abandoned line any further.
Washington Gas technicians tested the abandoned line to verify that it did not contain any residual gas. They then placed a safety shield around the pipe and cut it with a torch.
The abandoned gas line was removed where it interfered with the new line, and the new pipe was placed and backfilled on Friday.
Anchor Construction installed construction fence project wide this week. The entire project limits of disturbance will be fenced – orange at potential pedestrian entrances and green at all other locations.
