Washington Gas installed 80 feet of new gas line this week. The utility crew encountered solid rock along 40 feet of the new line, which required a hydraulic breaker - also known as a hoe ram - to excavate the trench.
The crew assembled the pipe on site on Wednesday and placed it on Friday. In the photo below you can again see the rock excavation that was required. You can also see the yellow tracer wire that is buried with the pipe. Because the pipe is plastic, the tracer wire allows the pipe to be located prior to digging for future trail or utility projects.
Anchor Construction installed tree protection fence on both sides of Klingle Road west of Connecticut Avenue this week. While some trees will be removed for the trail and stream work, most of the mature trees within the project limits will remain. These fences prevent vehicles and other construction equipment from maneuvering too closely to the trees and causing accidental damage.
